  • The blue shadow of the mountains, the pink line of sunshine descending from the sky to the land, the tree catching the first rays of sunrise. Hull Mountain, Mendocino National Forest.

  • The open oak savannah that clings to the sides of the Eel River canyons is like paradise for me. Open views, surrounded by lush forest, and in the company of California's soulful and omnipresent oaks.

  • I can only imagine what kind of headstrong, resilient people could make it out here over 100 years ago and survive off of the land.

  • This photograph is a high resolution panorama made of 4 separate images stitched together. The sun light shining on the tree, paired with the bright reflected light from the snow beneath and the snow lining each branch creates a simple but unique image.

  • An incredible area with very little trail maintenance. It seems like every where you go is uphill. The waters however are beautiful, green and magical.

  • Stony Creek, which flows down the east side of Snow Mountain and is collected in the East Park Reservoir, is home to native Rainbow Trout.

  • There's something about the geology and geomorphology of this area that creates these large rock outcroppings which can be found on the bottom of these canyons, on various forks of the Eel River. I don't know how it happens, but it is a unique and special feature of the area and they are beautiful.

  • This branch of the Eel River is nearly impossible to see without a 1000+ foot hike down to it. After doing the hike, on the drive out, we caught one glimpse of it down below.

  • Low level clouds and fog are one of the core elements of the Mendocino National Forest, which is why they show up in many of my photographs. Clyde Butcher, a renowned landscape photographer in Florida once told me, "In California you have mountains, in Florida we have clouds." In this area, they are often one and the same.
